I often get enquiries about hypnotherapy and it's usefulness, or not, in helping with some specific problems. Unfortunately, my view is that hypnotherapy is quite limited in what it can be used for. If you want to stop smoking, get over your exam nerves, pass your driving test, overcome a phobia or have a specific situational anxiety (public speaking for example), hypnotherapy is great.
However, if you have problems such as gambling addiction, alcohol or drug addiction, grief/bereavement, depression, weight and eating issues, hypnotherapy is not going to work. Those kinds of problems require counselling/psychotherapy. I am happy to work with clients with these kinds of issues, but not with hypnotherapy.
I believe in an ethical approach to therapy, and in my opinion, you are likely to be wasting your time and money expecting or hoping that hypnotherapy will help with these issues.
I know that it can be tempting to go for the quick fix that hypnotherapy offers, but some problems need more work, and I appreciate that that can be hard, but in the long term, you are likely to gain more through a counselling approach with addictions, depression, eating problems, and bereavement.
I would point out that if hypnotherapy could help with these kinds of problems, the NHS would have signed me up a long time ago.
So please consider this before you book an appointment hoping hypnotherapy will help you with addiction or depression, because the chances are you'll be disappointed. I can help you with these types of problems, but through counselling.
Please contact me if you would like to discuss how I can help you best.
